Alabama theater evades 'Beauty and the Beast' over gay "minute"

The story may be as old as time. 

In any case, Disney's new, live-activity melodic adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast" won't be the visitor of a drive-in theater in Alabama in view of another, gay turn. 

"It is with extraordinary distress that I need to tell our clients that we won't demonstrate 'Beauty and the Beast,'" read a message on the Facebook page of the Henagar Drive-In Theater in the upper east part of the state. The message was evacuated Friday evening. 





A 'solely gay minute' 

Executive Bill Condon says the character of LeFou, sidekick to the despicable Gaston, has an "only gay minute" in the PG-evaluated motion picture - despite the fact that this means indistinct. 

The New York Daily news calls LeFou "Disney's to start with, unambiguously gay character" in its rave audit. 

Assortment's commentator says LeFou is "senseless and stooping, yet I more likely than not missed the update where that spells 'gay.'" 

Condon told the British gay magazine Attitude, "LeFou is some individual who on one day needs to be Gaston and on one more day needs to kiss Gaston. He's befuddled about what he needs. It's some individual who's simply understanding that he has these sentiments." 


'Above all else Christians' 

The film hasn't opened yet, and it appears from the Facebook post that the Henagar Drive-In proprietors haven't seen it. 

"On the off chance that we can not take our 11-year-old granddaughter and 8-year-old grandson to see a motion picture we should not be watching it," the message said. "On the off chance that I can't sit through a motion picture with God or Jesus sitting by me then we should not be indicating it. We are above all else Christians. 

"We won't bargain on what the Bible instructs. We will keep on showing family-situated movies so you can don't hesitate to come watch wholesome films without agonizing over sex, bareness, homosexuality and foul dialect." 

The theater's Facebook page advanced showings of "Travelers," a science fiction sentiment with Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, and the forthcoming section in the "Privateers of the Caribbean" arrangement. 

The Facebook message said the theater went under new possession in December. 

Friendly exchange on the web 

The post drew a large number of reactions and remarks on Facebook from supporters and rivals. 

"Bravo," one man composed. "I surely won't take my six-year-old little girl to see this and need to attempt and clarify that a while later not cool."

Clete Wetli, a gay rights advocate, called the theater's choice "totally preposterous," including, "I laud Disney for being comprehensive and demonstrating the genuine assorted qualities of affection in our reality." 

Theater proprietor Carol Laney additionally addressed the station. 

"My salvation isn't about cash. It's not about men. It's what God needs me to do," she said. "We won't play motion pictures that engage in sexual relations. We won't play films that have bareness. It's my decision."
